Humatics is seeking an exceptional Systems and Safety Engineer at the Senior or Principal Engineer level to join this revolution. You will join a team of experienced and highly motivated electrical, computer, RF and robotics engineers with decades of experience in navigation and autonomous robot operation to realize and apply new types of data to a wide variety of applications. Humatics is pioneering the field of microlocation through the invention of new ultra-precise position sensors, advanced systems and flexible software. By measuring position with very high precision, our microlocation technology is revolutionizing how humans and robots interact with each other and the world.
Collaborate with other members of the systems engineering team on functional architecture, system-level design and interfacing with subsystem teams and designs
Conduct detailed engineering analyses that consider overall system specifications, subsystem components, product requirements, schedule, and cost.
Work with System Engineering, Integration and Testing, Field Application Engineering, and Quality teams to assess viability of systems and products for safety and reliability.
Develop and maintain product safety cases to justify that systems are acceptably safe for a specific application/environment.
Collaborate with the product development team to optimally allocate requirements and guide requirements-based tradeoffs
As required, lead small engineering teams (up to 10 people) during periods of systems integration and testing to ensure system meets specifications and is on-time and on-budget
Be a stakeholder in ensuring system quality including participation in change and failure review boards, conducting failure mode effect analysis, safety hazard analysis, assessing impacts of design changes on system performance, and seeing performance issues through to resolution.
When necessary, serve as project manager ensuring on-time, on-spec, and on-budget execution of engineering work
Identify issues and provide solutions to management.
Assess system performance, recommend and implement future design improvements, and provide expertise on design for manufacturing and standardization specifications
Work with product development team and external partners to conceive, develop, and build new systems and solutions.
As required, travel to customer sites for integrations, pilots, and other visits.
Five or more years experience in systems engineering including design and analysis, integration, and testing — preferably in the rail or transit sector.
Detailed understanding of systems engineering processes (e.g., DoD 5000.01-5000.02)
Experience in rail and transit sectors including experience designing, implementing and/or deploying signaling, control, and/or safety technologies — e.g., EN 50126 (IEC 62278), EN 50128 (IEC 62279), EN 50129 (IEC 62425), and/or Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) IAW IEC 61508.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Demonstrated experience working with electrical, mechanical, and software teams — pulling in required technical team members as required to solve systems-level challenges under tight timelines
Ability, aptitude and attitude to be involved in the integration, deployment, and testing of technology in a wide variety of environs.
Experience in numerical analysis languages (e.g., Python or Matlab)
Experience with new product development
Initiative to independently and rapidly tackle challenging technical problems with minimal supervision and proactively identify required work, risks and solutions within your subject area, and communicate them to stakeholders.
Strong communication skills including effectively presenting results and recommendations both internally and externally, clearly communicate complex technical material, effectively training people inside and outside his/her work group, and writing high quality reports with all necessary backup material for external consumption with minimal supervision.
As required, travel to support customer projects and integrations
Experience with RF technologies, navigation, industrial automation, and/or controls is preferred
